United Tribes International Pow Wow
Written by Chet
Saturday, 06 September 2008

In Denver last week, North Dakota Congressman Earl Pomeroy was busy snapping photos from the floor of the Democratic convention.  Last night Congressman Pomeroy spoke here in Bismarck at the United Tribes International Pow Wow and presented United Tribes Technical College President David Gipp with one of the photos he had taken last week.  Here are some photos...

While walking around the outside of the Lone Star Arena checking out the exhibits, I heard someone speaking over the public address system, but didn't recognize the voice.  It was a man's voice and he was talking about how every year the Republicans have been defunding United Tribes Technical College and every year our congressional delegation has to go in and claw and scratch to get this important college the funding it needs to continue it's critical educational programs.

I didn't know who it was that was talking as I checked out the display booths and signed the health care petition, but I think I know who it was now.

For the record, United Tribes Technical College is not a "pet project" and is not an "earmark."

The Parade of Champions was awesome this morning! The costuming, the drumming & singing -- it as all great.

& almost every float had Obama signs plastered all over it.

Finally a candidate who promises to advocated for one of our nation's greatest natural resources.

Thanks Earl
It's been a long time since the one time we talked, down on the banks of the Missouri river, in the backyard of Heidi's house. Thank you for your care and concern in all things. I've just started posting on this blog, partially to reacquaint myself with North Dakota and it's politics, partially as a way of keeping up with and expressing myself in this election, partially because there is some magnetism that draws me here.
One thing I have learned from my friend Maulana Kosmi, is that true spirituality is based on the number of people you serve. In America, the Native Indians are traditionally the poorest of the poor. By all rights, they should be the richest of the rich. Show me one acre of coal in ND that was not theirs 150 years ago. I know, Indians never did traditionally think like white man do, that the earth can be owned, but all the same, It is a shame that a decent US congressman, like yourself, has to fight like a real Barracuda to keep a simple Indian Collage open. I wish you were president, then I would know my brother is smiling,
Thank you again!
