Listen to Sen. Tracy Potter's Press Conference LIVE
Written by Chet
Friday, 05 February 2010

Senator Tracy Potter held is holding a press conference in Fargo this morning at 10:00 a.m.

WDAY-AM radio webcast is webcasting the press conference live at  10:00 a.m.

Click here, and then click "Listen Live" to tune in to Senator Potter's announcement.

Dave Catonese, a former reporter for Bismarck's KFYR-TV, wrote a story about Potter's announcement yesterday.  Here's a snippet and a link:

North Dakota state Sen. Tracy Potter plans to launch a campaign Friday for the open Senate seat of retiring Sen. Byron Dorgan, even as higher-profile Democrats continue to circle the race.

Potter told POLITICO he's moving ahead with his candidacy, regardless of whether other Democrats — including former state Attorney General Heidi Heitkamp — decide to run.

"The opportunity to run for the U.S. Senate, for an open seat, just doesn't come along that often," Potter said. "I looked at the landscape, know a lot of people that were talked about and considered it, but no one was stepping forward."

Potter, who is in his first term in the state Senate, conceded Heitkamp would be a strong contender for the Democratic Party's endorsement. Heitkamp lost the 2004 governor's race to GOP Senate candidate John Hoeven and has said only that she continues to weigh a candidacy.

"We don't have coronations on our side. She's giving it due diligence, and she'd have a pretty good chance," said Potter, who has spoken with Heitkamp.

Politico

Isn't that funny?  The Republicans are all busy planning the corronation of John Hoeven, who dove into the race as soon as Dorgan announced his plans, while North Dakota's Democrats are cautiously thinking things over.
