Hoeven's Millions
Written by Chet
Monday, 11 February 2008

Hoeven's MillionsThe right-wing spin machine likes to go after North Dakota's Democratic-NPLers for taking some money from out-of-state.  A Democrat takes a couple thousand from some progressive rich guy in Florida and -- boom -- the whole political party is tarnished.  What happens when you bring up the $100,000 donation -- probably corporate tobacco money -- Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem took a few years ago?

Cricket.  Cricket.  Cricket.

Can we trust him?  Or is he working for out-of-state interests?

Who is John Hoeven looking out for?

Not bad. Hoeven should have had Dave Spencer, the former chief of employer services at WSI, help him get contributions. Hey, look at Spencer's record.

Spencer left the agency in September 2006 and now works as a private consultant, writing grant proposals for businesses. Another WSI executive has estimated that Spencer's clients have received more than $2.5 million in grants.

How much of this money do you think will be spent on trying to get the injured workers vote?

Good night John Boy.

I have issues said:

ND Donors
I was looking around today at the SOS site for campaign disclosures and found it interesting that Missouri Basin Well Service, Jim Arthaud, the same company that "gave" the state of ND waste saltwater that was meant to go in disposal wells, gave Hoeven over $10000 recently. Now, putting saltwater anywhere but in a saltwater disposal well is illegal. But, no violations have been charged against Missouri Basin. The state has been "looking into" this situation and has since stopped using the illegal waste but I still find it awfully coincidental that Arthaud gave Hoeven over 10 grand and the problems have all but disappeared.

Railgate
The BNSF contribution is interesting considering Hoeven was embroiled in a railcar fundraising scandal in 2001.

You beat me to the punch.

Also, John Barry is the name of the guy who composed the score to a number of James Bond movies, including "On Her Majesty's Secret Service," "Diamonds Are Forever," "Goldfinger," "Moonraker," and "Octopussy." (A different John Barry?)

The most troubling part about all of this is that politicians like Hoeven and Stenehjem use organizations like the Republican Governor's Association ($250k to Hoeven) and the Republican State Leadership Committee ($110k to the Stenehjems) to accept corporate contributions. It's illegal, in North Dakota, for politicians to accept contributions from corporations so Republicans launder their corporate contributions -- mostly tobacco, insurance company, casinos, mortgage company, Abramoff , the moneyman behind Swift Boat Vets for Fiction and pharmaceutical company money -- through these sneaky, secretive out-of-state Republican outfits.

Nice work, guys. Way to give us confidence in our government.

I saw Merck, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer... on the list. I'm sure it's creative accounting... but the last I checked those were some huge corporations.

I wonder if???
I wonder if anyone is really concerned about Hoeven collecting alot of money, does this mean he will win? Look at Mitt, he has millions, and guess what? With all that is out there about the how screwed up this state is, from the governors office, on down to the Insurance Commissioner, to well lets not for get the lil ol WSI, and its internal fighting. I am ashamed to admit it but I did at one time believe in the Repblican ideas, well way back in the early 90s, but now I am older, and realize......Damn these guys can screw up alot in a short period of time, specially when they dont have the balls to admit they messed up.
So I guess what I am telling you is, get out and vote, and get them out of office. I am voting straight down the line for the Democrates,

Money cant buy happiness!!
I know this is kind of an old subject here, but I just cant resist commenting on the issue of Mr. Hoeven bragging up about his big campaign purse. Maybe some reality needs to be brought to this issue, and bring it back down to earth. Anyone that has been following the elections knows that many politicians have had very large campaign "war chests" to run their elections on, and yet failed to even clinch many votes. Here are some names to remind Mr. Hoeven that well, money cant always buy you happiness.

John Edwards
Mitt Romney
Rudy Giuliani
Fred Thompson
Joe Biden
Tommy Thompson

Well I am sure you get the hint now! Do not count your chickens before they hatch!! I think you have proven yourself the last two terms, and maybe its time for someone else to prove that change is a good thing!

John Mc Cain
I believe most Americans know what issues we face as a nation as we try to decide which candidate(s) will best resolve them. We see in John McCain?s life, past and present a devotion to serve his country. Anyone who knows Senator McCain will tell you that he has passion for what he believes in and a constant drive to serve his country to the best of his abilities with sincerity, truthfulness, and dedication.

Most Americans are aware of the courageous service John provided as a naval aviator and POW . But few can fully appreciate how bad the egregious hospitality of the Hanoi Hilton was .His main concerns were for other POWs? life threatening conditions and how he could help them is spite of the injuries he had received prior to and during his confinement.

To this day John?s truthfulness and dedication for what he believes in is demonstrated by his sincere and noble service as a Senator of the United States of America. We could do a whole lot worse than vote for John Mc Cain as our next president of the United States for every man, woman and child in our country regardless of their political affiliation.

God Speed John Mc Cain

McCain's voting record
Maybe I'm off base with what John Son wrote about Senator McCain but it sounded like he endorsed the idea of McCain becoming the next president of our country. A look at this man's voting record for all the years he has served in the Congress will give you a better understanding of what he REALLY stands for. Yes, McCain was a POW and served his country in the military honorably but as far as serving his country honorably as a House representative and Senator is a stretch at best. Just because you go through hell in war does not give a person a free ticket to escape scrutiny when it comes to representing citizens in the enactment of laws. McCain is shown, through his voting record, not military service, to be a dangerous man and one I believe would be disastrous for this country to have as head of the Executive Branch.
