Last week we here at NorthDecoder ran a guest piece asking a lot of questions about Measure 2. Where is the link in the fish-wrap’s story for that? Maybe that post alienated the Republicans at the Tribune by having too much truthful information. We aren’t hocking anything but the facts. Well... the facts and one prediction. Here's a prediction for 2012: Now that Lee Enterprises has wrapped up its bankruptcy, look for Lee to sell the Bismarck Tribune. Buyer? My prediction is the Trib will be bought up by Forum Communications in 2012. That's what all the signs are pointing to. A complete news monopoly will be completed so nearly all print news can be controlled by the NDGOP. When the sale is announced, remember you read it here first.

... Makes sense to me. A good fit for the Forum. The Forum is successfully using a business model that is being taught by most Universities and implemented in nearly every area of our economy. It is profit driven. Don't get me wrong. Profit is essential---absolutely necessary. Just how it is acheived is where I have a problem. The model diminishes the value of labor. In fact, many economists will now tell you that labor is merely a cost of doing business and the lower you can reduce that cost to is how you make more profit. It MAY be good business practice but it is bad economics. A vast but little understood difference exists between the two. Our nation must be goverened by economic law. That is where the "common good" or as Jefferson understood and crafted much of our system with this in mind, the concept of "commonwealth". If we lose that, unbridled capitalism will consume our Republic. We are far down that slippery slope. The restoration of commonwealth and economic law should be the platform on which the Democrats make their case and unless they take some stand, their version of Republicanism will continue to lose elections. While my disappointment in Obama is large, if we want real fixes to our economic mess, based on his State of the Union address, it is up to us to make our case. Not merely support but the demand that we be listened to and that we are willing to work tirelessly for a common good and follow the President's lead. We really do have that choice. We must do better. |
