WW2_Iwo_Jima_flag_raisingTake some time on this day to remember and/or thank a veteran. Do it in your heart, at the very least. Or do it with your words.

With that, I want to thank the veterans I know and, especially, the ones who read NorthDecoder.com.

Thanks, all.

They ask me where I've been,
And what I've done and seen.
But what can I reply
Who know it wasn't I,
But someone just like me,
Who went across the sea
And with my head and hands
Killed men in foreign lands...
Though I must bear the blame,
Because he bore my name.

Wilfred Gibson (1878-1962)

We praise our veterans best by making sure that first that we don't elect leaders who use our veteran's sacrifice to inflate their egos and electoral chances or create windfalls for their campaign contributors, and second, we provide them with all the opportunities and care they need to return to civilian life. We also need to recognize that not all the wounds of the battlefield are to the body.
