Rick Berg Voted To Send America Deeper Into Recession PDF Print E-mail
Written by Chet

RickBergLast night, outgoing North Dakota Congressman Rick Berg voted with the radical Teapublicans to send America into a huge, double-dip recession, favoring tax breaks for himself and his wealthy millionaire and billionaire friends over a more reasonable, balanced first step in resolving some of our country's financial problems.

Luckily the radical Teapublicans ended up losing this time.  But they'll be back.

I was streaming the c-span.org video of the vote last night as it was happening and instant messaging with Adam B.  Adam's prediction was that Berg would vote for the bill (and against a double-dip recession) because, while "he may be evil," "he's not crazy."

Turns out he was only half wrong.

Here's a link to the roll-call vote.

Bye bye Ricky!!!!!! Your political future is highly doubtful. WE do have alot to be thankful for.

Now just what to do about his even crazier replacement, Cramer and not to mention, the Gov., the whole PSC and a looney legislature. Quite a challenge.

I DO hope he is able to find private health care insurance, now that he is not on the government-paid program he enjoyed while serving in the most ineffective House of Representatives in history. Of course, based on this vote, he may have some pre-existing conditions to deal with.

Many have been convinced that the recession/depression has ended or we are into recovery. I am not in that group. The real data tells a different story. Home values are still in decline. Foreclosures are still the norm. Wall St. has been proped up by quantitative easing #3 with approx. $40 billion a month being poured into housing securities by the Fed. Job creation is mostly mythical as jobs will be created once we increase consumer income thereby giving the consumer/taxpayer the ability to spend/consume, absent an increase in debt. Debt pretending to be income has been at the root of our economic problem for years. While Berg does not understand any of this, more importantly, he and his bunch simple do not give a damn. Their only goal is the continuing transfer of wealth from us to them. That part is indeed about the only thing that is working.
It appears at this time that the mystery is deepening. Obama continues to listen to "experts" like FDR did. It did not work then and it will not work now. Keynesism can provide short term relief but we are way past that. It will require a complete new thinking about our monetary system/policy. The mystery of how income is created is perhaps the biggest barrier to mechanisms to move us into balance.
