Topics I hope we get to include: (1) the cost to taxpayers of Rick Berg's political campaign mailers and what to do about it, (2) the latest from North Dakota's Workforce Safety & Insurance, and (3) President Clinton's appearance and other events at the Democratic-NPL convention in Grand Forks later this week. (I'm hoping to stop in at the Olive Garden this weekend. I hear it's really nice.) If we have time we'll talk about other fun stuff, too. We'll likely be taking calls, so do like everyone else in the state does and get your phone freak on. KFYR's signal covers most of North Dakota. If you aren't in-state, can't pick up a decent signal, or don't have a radio where you are, you can always stream it online or on your smartphone, using the iHeartRadio app.

I'm tentatively scheduled to appear on Steve Bakken's political talk radio show on KFYR 550 AM this afternoon between 4pm and 5pm CST. The show is usually co-hosted by Dustin Gawrylow but, as you might imagine, he won't be there this afternoon as he's busy with other things right now. |
Radio star Great job on the radio! I can't get over the numb nuts that called in saying “nothin’s wrong with what’s a happenin’ in the Bakken.” Obviously they don’t live in or near the Bakken, they have not been there recently, and they don’t have any friends who live there. I am confident their only interest is wanting the tax money from the Bakken so they don’t have to pay property taxes. I think there are names for people like that, sluts and prostitutes come to mind. And no, I don’t want to see their solo sex tapes. |

Thanks. You know how sometimes North Dakotans experience these weird, extreme temperature changes over short periods of time in the winter? Like when it goes from 30 degrees below zero to 50 degrees above zero in a 24 hour period? That's what parts of today felt like for me. Except it wasn't the temperature that changed. It was the intellect level. I went from listening to a couple of those callers during the radio show between 4pm and 5pm, to sitting down at a table with a few friends and talking about the future of North Dakota. It was good. |

It is not only refreshing, it is necessary. It seems that not too long ago, conversations took place where different ideas or political/economic discourse took place. It was healthy. Maybe not minds were changed but progress happened. Maybe we gave in too much, I really don't know. But the lunatic ranting and anger and yes, hatred was not present. Maybe it was there, lurking under the surface but I really don't think so. Yes, there have always been nuts---bigots, homophobes, racists, etc., but they had little influence and were basically not tolerated. Just when did we turn over the dialogue of the nation to these lunatics? My wife tells me that in the end or this year, sanity will appear and we will re-elect Obama----in spite of our disappointment with him, the other side is just bad news. I am not so sure here at home. The nuts seem to be in charge. My wife says that these crazy bunch has alienated so many women that if they vote, they will control the election. Could be. She says that for decades, Catholic women( she is one of them) have mostly ignored what a "bunch of old men" are telling women. Just irrelevant and they have quietly gone about their business although many have left the Church over these issues. Today, the right wing can claim this as a victory---their influence over the Bishops has successfully alienated a whole new level of women who will not be disposed to come back to the Church. So to those who subscribe to the aspirin method of birth control, your days are numbered. Keep it up. You have planted the seeds of your own demise. If Democrats don't capitalize on this issue, they deserve to lose. |

Sorry I don't have a recording of the show so can't post it. I don't think KFYR posts podcasts. Not sure what else to tell you. Maybe one of our Republican friends who recorded it would be willing to share it. (?) |
