| ND-Sen: Rick Berg Doesn't Know What The Minimum Wage Is |

Fargo slumlord -- and current U.S. Congressman -- Rick Berg was recently asked, at some sort of apparent Tea Party event, what the Minimum Wage is in North Dakota. And the fourteenth wealthiest member of Congress had no idea, of course. Here's the video:
Here's a rough transcript: Q: I just have a question... What is the minimum wage right now in North Dakota? Berg: You know, this guy [pointing] would know. I think it's probably seven something? Q: Okay. Berg: I depends what.... I mean... they don't have a minimum wage for a waitress. Berg decided to use one of his lifelines. (He went with "Ask the Audience.") If I were him, I would have used a "Phone-A-Friend" and called one of the more in-touch members of middle management at my slum management business. I'm guessing one of those guys would have had a pretty accurate guess. To be fair... the minimum wage in North Dakota is "seven something," so Berg is right on the outskirts of being right. But you'd think he'd have some idea what the "something" is. It's kind of important. Maybe someone should ask him what a loaf of bread goes for these days.

... Pretty frightening. And it's just another small example of how out of touch he and a good portion, if not all, of the GOP are just truly out of touch with the rest of us... |

Rick Berg thinks you can live on minimum wage. I remember a League of Women Voters forum several years ago and Rick Berg thought a person could live on minimum wage of, like it was 5 to 6 dollars at the time. I have never forgotten his comments and that smirk on his face and if anyone can find an old League of Women Voters Forum from the television station who filmed it, it would definitely be enlightening. Do you know anyone who can live on minimum wage without some other type of assistance: another member in the household, share space with someone, not have a vehicle, definitely not being living in a Goldmark apartment with their high rents, or on some other type of assistance. |
