Keynote Speaker At Bismarck Anti-Women Rally Has Sketchy Past PDF Print E-mail
Written by Chet

PriestsAgainstInVitroFertalization002Frank Pavone, who is being heralded as a leader of the anti-woman movement celebrating this week at the North Dakota State Capitol Building in Bismarck today, has a bit of a troublesome, sketchy past.  Here's a couple snippets.  First:

Frank Pavone, the leader of Priests for Life, has been suspended from engaging in active ministry outside the Diocese of Amarillo, Texas, as a result of concerns about financial improprieties.

The local bishop, Patrick J. Zurek, wrote in a letter to all of the bishops in the US, “My decision is the result of deep concerns regarding his stewardship over the finances of the Priests for Life (PFL) organization. The PFL has become a business that is quite lucrative which provides Father Pavone with financial independence from all legitimate ecclesiastical oversight.”

CatholicsForChoice.org (September 13, 2011)

And another...

Indeed, the lesson of Pavone's rehabilitation may be that in today's Catholic Church, it helps to have friends in high places, and to be battling on an issue -- abortion -- that is such a priority for Rome, especially during a critical presidential race. Whatever PFL's financial woes, keeping Pavone in business trumped the usual niceties of ecclesiastical life.

And this is the guy the anti-women people are celebrating in Bismarck today.

Should we be surprised that they can't hold one of these anti-women rallies without filling the stage with people with sketchy backgrounds like this guy?

Probably not.

And to top it off, Bishop Kagen attends this rally to take a victory lap and cheerlead the ralliers. I guess he doesn't mind ignoring church/state separation and rubbing our noses in the tax-exempt status enjoyed by the church. Time for catholics to re-think their financial support for the Bishop's annual "God's Share" fundraising campaign coming up this spring. Some of the money donated is likely being misused to support these political shenanigans. Maybe the Bishop will get the message.

It's a nice thought, but I'm afraid these anti-woman people will never change, Jason.

I prefer you call it what it is Sundown. The Killing of a human being. If it's ok for a woman not to want it and want to get rid of it, what is stopping them from doing it at 8months instead of 3 months? Why should it be different? You obviously think it's ok for a woman to kill a human being. So what does it matter what term it is?

I read a quote from a "Feminist" facebook page, posted by one of my friends. "Why should we discipline a woman with a pregnancy she doesn't want?" To me that says it all.

And before you say Rape/incest/woman's health, check the facts. That is only 2% of the reasons for an abortion.

That's the best you could do, Chet? Drudge up an old story about a matter that was resolved? And it wasn't financial mismanagement in the sense of fraud. It had to do with some canon law accounting matters.

And what point are you making with the Priests Against In Vitro Fertilization thing other than a swipe at the Catholic Church. None of the bills passed have anything to do with IVF, so your point could not be about that. Every Catholic priest is opposed to IVF because that is the teaching of the Church.

Finally, the anti-woman narrative is laughable considering that this is one of the most misogynist blogs out there.
