Kevin Cramer Tells Republicans To Kiss His Butt PDF Print E-mail
Written by Chet

CramerNorth Dakota Public Service Commissioner Kevin Cramer sees the writing on the wall for him at the 2012 Republican State Convention in Bismarck.

U.S. House candidate Kevin Cramer says he'll bypass the North Dakota Republican Party's endorsing convention in April and take his campaign straight to the June primary.

The Republic (AP)

Here's my guess on what this is about: I will bet Cramer has seen Shane Goettle's contributor list (or has heard about it) and sees the writing on the wall. As we pointed out earlier this week, Cramer is a shill for the Koch Brother's Crime Family. A lot of North Dakota's fascist Republicans don't mind that, but the state party's puppet masters aren't impressed that someone is stepping on their toes. Cramer knows he would never be endorsed by the Republican Party in 2012. He's probably been told he's perceived as being too much of a nutbag. (And rightfully so, I might add.) The "establishment" candidate is almost certainly Shane Goettle. Goettle was a John Hoeven cabinet-level official and worked in Hoeven's Senate office until he quit to run for the U.S. House. He's completely unqualified to serve in the U.S. House, but he's "Hoeven's guy." Hoeven has all the establishment D.C. Republican money masters in his pocket now, and he's surely helping Goettle pad his campaign nest already.

Imagine Hoeven giving the nominating speech for Goettle and Goettle not getting the parties endorsement. How bad would that look for John Hoeven? The NDGOP has to endorse Goettle, and Cramer knows it.

But Cramer has a big ego, and the Koch Brothers Crime Family has made it clear (with their wallets) that they want to own North Dakota's U.S. Congressman.  So what's he to do?!?

Obviously he needs to tell the North Dakota Republican Party to pound sand, and then try to "primary" Goettle. He's got the Koch Brother Crime Family money behind him. There's no other way to make it happen at the convention. This is what he has to do.

The rest of the Republican House candidates are non-starters.  The only people who haven't figured that out yet are them.

That's my take.

What do you think?

I suspect that you are dead on. When you think about it, just how did we get so far down the road to Perdition?

I have a lifetime of legitimate disagreements with folks of every political stripe. I hold that this is the mix that makes our system work. It is always a little messy and it is supposed to be.

What he have here in our state is nothing even remotely similar to that. This is not politics. It is the elites or wannabe elites scrapping with each other. We have been on this path since we elected Eddie as Governor and it has gone downhill ever since.

Give this bunch credit for good timing. It corresponds to the rise of right wing talk radio and Fox news. The effect is palpable everwhere. At the barber shop; at the mall; at church; in our local press; at the local pub. I suggest that a read of "What's the Matter with Kansas" might offer some insights into this phenomenon. It is truly remarkable that those at the bottom, those who are most adversely affected by this bunch have become rabid supporters. Maybe a perfect storm.

Back to Cramer, he will pull out all of the braindead stops, get out his cross and travel the state funded by out of staters and might make it. Doubtful but possible.

On the other hand, with a little thought, just what the hell difference would it make. All of them, including Berg and Hoeven give me heartburn. They do not reflect another version of good government. They represent a sea change in our country. A slippery slope to the bottom. A society where the elites govern from the top, the standard of living, already in decline, will move much faster toward the bottom.

While many of you may see this as an exaggeration, I would welcome any challenge.

I still maintain that this has happened in a political vaccuum. The real change took shape in 1984 with the founding of the DLC. An open attempt to counter Reagan with the Democrats abandoning those who they have represented and taking a drastically more Republican approach only for the pupose of getting votes. Our soul began to evaporate at that time. Here at home, we watered down our traditional ideology and anyone who tried to stop or slow this down was basically marginalized. Party headquarters became an instrument of our Washington delegation and our district system weakened year by year.

If I am wrong, please explain the outcomes of the past 4 or 5 elections. The likelyhood of this changing in 2012 is remote. It is not the quality of our candidates; it is the lack of focus and functional aid from the top----which is their basic job description.

Perhaps this nightmare will play itself out and the wrecking crew will destroy itself. Or maybe we should consider beginning a new deal. We have little to lose. When you are at the bottom, everything is up.

It is a major undertaking. It might be worth considering.

I agree that Cramer is the spokesmouth for the elitist hypocrite wing of the ND GOP. He will run around talking about growing up in Kindred, and his daddy being a lineman for the county who once worked with Dick Armey. He'll drag poor Jesus around and prop up his Christian credentials. He was on Heitkamp today and the lovefest between those two was nauseting (sp-yes I could work for the Tourism Dept.) Heitkamp used to call Cramer out on stuff; that was not the case today.

The sad thing is the ND Democratic party is an embarrassment to the definition of "loyal opposition." They are incapable of pointing out the giant weak spots in the Cramers of the world, and I don't understand why. He is low-hanging fruit and a dream candidate for the recent graduate from campaign school.

The dems should be pointing out that Cramer has done the following since graduating from Concordia: been appointed to three positions by Ed Schafer. Two are Cabinet level positions (Tourism and Econ. Development) and the third is to a leadership position at the Harold Schafer Center at U-Mary. They needed to park him somewhere until Hoeven got comfy with him.

Cramer once drove a fuel truck in his hometown. Since college, that could be one of the only real "private sector" job he's ever had, but I'm not sure. When he announced that he was running for Congress the first time, he did it in the Kindred High School Gym while wearing his high school letterman's jacket.

If I was running against him, I'd be buying as much air time before the primary as I could. He's got more money and name recognition than the others but he also has more baggage. Lets have a look at some of those low interest loans and grants that he handed out at the Dept. of Economic Development. How many of those companies actually are still in business? There's so much to work with that it baffles me the ND Dems can't beat him and send him to the ash heap of history.

I would take issue with Big Running as to Cramer being low hanging fruit. That is an insult to low hanging fruit. On the best day, he has to look up to be a hack.

Your questions as to the Democrats are right on. At this point, I have little hope that they are thinking about finding democrat principles and and developing some ideology to back that up. They are the remnants of Guy/Sinner/Conrad/Dorgan/Pomeroy. They took on a whole new look after the Burdick era. Pretending to be conservatives just has not worked. It never could.

You have opened up a real can of worms. The Democrats should get busy and find out how much money since Eddie has been spent on Economic development, how much has been repaid, what is the status of every project undertaken, how much federal money has been used and last but not least, how much risk have our good ole boy network of ND bankers taken and how much have they lost. SBA projects(usually with the cooperation of local and state Econ. development) should be included.

If you are interested in the biggest boondogle in our state's history, ge there. I will be the first to tell you that the Dem's track record is no better but the Republicans have been in charge since Eddie. Few of them could withstand the potential public outcry. Even the bible thumpers might find the courage to stand up for something of merit.

As to Cramer being a Dick Armey wannabe but not yet a clone, check out Armey's politics. Destructive, anti-family, anti-union, anti working folks, pro elitist, pro wealthy, anti-democratic institutions. Cramer wants to be just like him.

If anything is provably harmful to the future of America, this bunch represents this philosophy. I agee, send them to the trashbin of history and get about the business of remaking America, as Intended.
